Choose your strength-training setup

Check the stated dimensions, load limits, adjustment positions and assembly requirements for each bench or rack. Allow room around the equipment for the movements you plan to perform, following the manufacturer's clearance and installation instructions.

For bars, plates and loadable dumbbells, compare sleeve diameter, plate-hole size, usable loading length and the specified compatible collars. Do not assume standard and Olympic components are interchangeable. Confirm whether a listing includes weights, a bar, a bench or rack attachments, or shows these for illustration only.

Weights, bench and rack questions

Will every weight plate fit every bar?

No. Match the plate-hole size to the bar's sleeve diameter and check the manufacturer's compatibility information before ordering.

Does a bench or rack come with weights?

Not necessarily. Some listings are equipment-only and others are packages. Read the included-components list for the specific product.

How should I compare bench and rack load ratings?

Read how the manufacturer defines each rating, including whether it covers user weight, lifted weight or a combined load. Check individual attachment limits and follow the supplied instructions.

How much room should I allow?

Compare assembled dimensions, bar length, access and movement space with the manufacturer's clearance requirements. Allow for adjustments and storage of components.

Will the equipment arrive assembled?

Assembly and installation vary by model. Check the supplied-parts list, instructions and any anchoring requirements before choosing your setup.
